Well, a lot has happened in recent months. I would like to say “Thanks” to Chris Burr and John Denny for hosting the club in the last several months at their homes for the monthly meetings. I personally feel that we had good turnouts with great programs. Lots to see, do and learn…. and that’s what it’s all about.
In April we had the resumption of the semi-annual Elm study group. There were several members in attendance. Elms, their properties, strengths, weaknesses, traits and care were discussed as well as some of the different species favored for bonsai. Also at the April meeting John Denny discussed and demonstrated two propagation techniques. Air layering and Ground Layering. Several members pitched in to help the demo go smoothly.
In May it was John Denny’s turn to host the club at his house. The topic of the meeting were companion plants and their part in bonsai displays. Ivan Hanthorn from the Des Moines area visited to discuss this topic that is pretty new to most of the EIBA members. Thank You Ivan….nice job. Also at the May meeting was Bill Ball to talk about styling and shaping Elms, his specialty. Bill your skill and knowledge continue to amaze me. Thanks again.
Until the next event, keep an eye on your trees and don’t forget to water!
Now that things have settled down a bit at work and at home I have some more time to update the site.
We still have lots in store for the club this summer. Coming up on June 17th is the next club meeting. Location and times will be announced when it gets a bit closer.
